I am looking for gift idea for my husband 50th birthday. It was about two weeks ago but he's not been around, he will be home this weekend. I guess I left it too late but any idea will be welcomed.
Thanks,

why don't the two of you go away together? or if he is into sport etc you could get him a match ticket for someone?

50 small gifts beginning with the first letter of his name?

Throw a big party for him - his friends, your combined friends, family etc. It's short notice but it could be quickly organised.

The local Chinese/Indian could be good starting points if you can't be bothered cooking or as an addition to your brilliant cooking! Personally, I would say - keep it simple. Lots of booze and food!

Everyone loves to feel special on a significant birthday.

The 'big party' is not everyone's idea of fun. To be honest, for me it would be my worst nightmare. I'd far prefer immediate family and a small number of select friends.

A photo album of his life (one of the beautiful ones with tissue paper), him as a baby, ye courting, wedding, babies etc.

I love Harbour's suggestion too, but I'm an ould romantic, unlike you, who has left it about 3 months too late to be thinking about this!

For my hubby's 50th, we had a small dinner party with only very close friends.

As presents he got Grecian 2000, a Zimmer frame, a pair of very thick glasses, a 'Thing to do now I'm 50' book, 50 year old bottle of whiskey, lot's of nasty 50 year old birthday cards, an adult nappy, Sterident and a glass to put his teeth into, etc.

The evening was full of laughter and jokes and he said it was the best birthday he ever had. Depends on your other half's sense of humour! :)

This one would take a bit of organising so not much good to the O/P.

My invite to a 50th party stated we must be at birthday boy’s house at 6.30 sharp no excuses. Arrived to find a fifty seater coach waiting to take the party of fifty to an unknown destination. We proceeded into town where the coach pulled up outside the Olympia where fifty seats to see I Keano were booked. After the show the coach took us back to birthday boys house where caterers and a full bar were on standby. It was different, expensive and could be adapted to any taste, but a great night.

Well this was for a 40th, & maybe neither you nor your husband would be interested, but did you read this story where the wife gave her husband a present of "getting lucky" every day for a year!

Is he a Golfer?

I have just been given a Golf Voucher for 4 rounds of Golf & 4 Dinners for the 4* Hotel Nuremore in Carrickmacross. The value of this voucher is €280 and is to be used to raise funds for an Orphanage I will be visiting in Cape Town this November.

What is he really into? i.e does he like history - then a historical walking tour around Dublin followed by romantic dinner in a great resto

Does he like the sea - then a sea safari

Wine? A wine course or a fine wine dinner?

I kinda feel that landmark birthdays - 30, 40, 50 etc should be marked by something out of the ordinary....

a surprise luxury picnic in a beautiful spot - maybe with friends showing up too as a surprise outdoor party

the photo album idea is gorgeous too

My dad is turning 50 next week and I still can't choose a present. I want some personalized gift but I don't know what to choose. Does anyone have any ideas?

Almost impossible without knowing what he's interested in.

Why the fuss? Get him a birthday card, a scratch card or a box of his fav chocs. No big deal, or maybe it's YOU that wants the event? Most guys couldn't give a toss to tell you the truth.:)

I've a few years to go yet but a gift voucher for Escorts Ireland would be a nice novelty gift.
