getting item from amazon.ie

my big concern was if this item came from outside the eu ,and what customs charges would be added when it came to me at my door .ok will give it a try and see what happens
thanks for the information folks

Personally I avoid anything that doesn't have a quick delivery. I also avoid anything too expensive from Amazon as if you have to return it it's a pain.

I have a Amazon Prime sub for many many years and have ordered a lot and I mean a lot from amazon.co.uk.
  • Delivery timing, maybe one or two delayed items over the years. Overall 99+ of delivery times are met or exceded for their Prime Delivery items. (You need to select Prime when filtering your search, longer times for delivery from Amazon Market place suppliers)
  • Customs Charges and VAT etc calculated at check out with a currency guarantee. Never paid more and have had regular euro refunds post purchase.
  • Had a Poweline adaptor die within manufacturers warranty. The manufacturer refererred me to Amazon who quickly sent out a replacement before I returned the failed unit. (Return label was freepost)
  • For larger items, returns to Amazon are a "pain" as not freepost as I understand. However I have not encountered this situation yet.

All in all, for smaller items Amazon.co.uk has been amazing in my experience, which Argos used to fill :(. When issues have occurred have got them sorted easily on chat which is waay better than other companies I have had to deal with.

I haven't switched to amazon.ie yet due to the availability of stock, other threads and mainly I still see better deals on amazon.co.uk. Each to their own, but Amazon have been great from my POV.

Can I ask how to only avail of Amazon Prime for a month ? I'm afraid if I click the offer, it will be charged monthly after that ? Can I shop on Amazon without having to take the free offer ? Haven't used Amazon for years now . Thank you.

Amazon.co.uk always do delivered duty paid (DDP), the price you see is the price you pay though I have occasionally had refunds of a few cents where the duty they were charged by Revenue was less than their calculations in advance (likely currency related)

Amazon returns are as easy as any other provider, they arrange for the carrier to call and collect.

For returning small items I've always had to bring it to a post office.

If the item is damaged sometimes Amazon provide a prepaid label, other times I have paid the postage and Amazon refunded it afterwards.

If you change your mind, the postage isn't always refunded.

I bought a watch recently on co.uk site and I got a notice from An post to pay VAT which almost brought it up to the price it was on the ie site.

most likely a marketplace seller rather than "sold by amazon". In that case vat and duty is not included and you pay on delivery. The seller is just using amazon as a sales platform, but packing and sending it themselves

Clubman apologies for delay replying. I rarely order anything over £150. But checking back on some orders from 2023 on the Amazon website, I see the import deposit was applied. I really can't remember the outcome...
