getting item from amazon.ie

looking at getting a item on amazon.ie (haven't dealt with any form of amazon before)
not sure if this item is coming from a non eu country (doesn't say where it is coming from or seller from what i can make out )
so trying to figure out if i will have a surprise custom charge.
so how does amazon.ie works
if item is delivered to amazon.ie do they notify me of custom charge and let me pay it there and then,
or will they just send it on to me with custom charge to be paid at my door?
also recommend best/safest way to pay ?
 
You pay what it say at checkout and nothing more.

Even if it is a marketplace seller, Amazon do all the importing.

I do find they are dreadfully slow at delivery.
 
Amazon doesn't accept Apple Pay/Google Pay either.

The options listed on the help page are the only ones they accept.

Presuming its fulfilled by Amazon it completely depends on what your getting and which distribution centre its coming from. It states before purchasing when the expected delivery date will be. I've gotten stuff the next day and other times I've waited a little over a week on items coming from Spain or Germany.

If you order during very busy periods such as Amazon Prime Day or Black Friday it can take a while for them to dispatch as they prioritise Prime members. You can however get a discount on your purchase during very busy periods if you state you're not in a rush.

No way of knowing what distribution centre it comes from. Their estimated delivery dates are wildly inaccurate. I've yet to experience a "speedy" delivery and have p[rime purley by default as I have prime video.

So when I urgently needed toner for a laser printer I didn't even check amazon as I just assumed there'd be no chance of getting it within 2 days. An office supply company in Kells had it delivered the next morning and will certainly use them again.
 
I ordered a book from Amazon.co.uk on Friday and it was dropped in yesterday during the match (another story)

I ordered 2 ink cartridges on Saturday and they arrived this morning!

I still find Amazon.co.uk cheaper for most things and I avail of the regularly offered free prime for a month.

I haven't used Amazon.ie yet, but do use the UK site a lot and find the estimated delivery estimates are very accurate and that keeps me coming back so I can time the deliveries for days when I'm working from home. The only times they didn't deliver on the target date was when the goods arrived the day before.

I'm living in an area where Amazon's own delivery service doesn't operate so perhaps there are issues where it does or where An Post's service is below par.
 
Like Leo, we use Amazon.co.uk regularly. Delivery times are usually quick and accurate. Although one repeat order I made recently was delayed for an extra 2 days. It was a reminder that we can't take prompt delivery for granted. Usually an extra day or 2 wouldn't matter, but on this occasion it did.

What about import charges/taxes?

I rarely use any Amazon site but last time I did a few years ago (components for a gaming PC build) it was much cheaper and less hassle to order via Amazon.de.
 
Small items are often cheaper on .co.uk than .ie

20% UK VAT is removed and 23% Irish VAT is added at checkout.

There are no import/customs fees on orders less than €150.

Tax on Low Value Imported Goods (LVIG) - Amazon Customer Service

Amazon is obligated to calculate, collect, and remit Sales Taxes including Value Added Tax (VAT), Goods and Services Tax (GST), and others, on low-value imported goods (LVIG) classified as taxable for each relevant jurisdiction.
