Gas or Electric cooker

We have no mains gas connection but I do like cooking on gas rings. However I am considering going electric on the new kitchen as I dont want the hassle and cost of gas/LPG cylinders.

I hear these induction cookers are better than gas and heat water a lot faster. Is that true ?

Anyone got advice on whether to go gas or electric ?

The problem with all electric hobs is that the heat cannot be controled (when you turn the hob down it is not instant)

Usualy people if given the option go for gas rings with an electric oven (for the fan assisted feature)

It is instant with induction, but it only works with iron-based pans.
 
I have induction which I'm delighted with, it's highly controllable (perhaps not quite as minutely adjustable as gas) and much easier to clean than a gas hob. It looks pretty much like a ceramic hob. It heats up water incredibly fast, it's a bit of a party piece now to show someone who hasn't seen induction before how quick it is!

Yes you do have to use special pans, that said, you can pick up a set for a fairly reasonable price. For a while now Neff have been giving a very nice set of 3 Ittalla pots and a frying pan with any induction hob. They also have an induction hob with a "Point & Twist" knob which I think makes the hob more controllable, normally you have to cycle down from 9, 8.5, 8, 7.5 etc. (You can also instantly drop the level to "warm"). It shuts itself off if something spills over or if left on accidentally.

I'd suggest you go to a supplier of kitchen appliances and ask for a demonstration of both types.
