Gas is on but boiler won't stay lighting

I got gas cooker disconnected as I replaced with electric, gas pipe was capped of behind cooker.
Gas at box outside was turned of as the gas cooker was been disconnected, then opened gas again outside.
Now when I try to get boiler going to heat the house the flame only lasts about a second then goes out.
So every time I go to gas box outside and flick switch down(0) and then back up to on (l) I try again but only get flame
(Vokera type)
Anybody any idea what could be wrong or would you recommend someone around South Dublin in possible that does boilers and are fair with price,
I can ring Bord Gais but would like to see if I get option here, thanks
 
Sounds like a flame detection (rectification) problem, or possible flue/fan issue

Where in south Dublin?
 
Was the cooker supply only capped Today? If so, there's a chance the pipework hasn't been properly purged and you're getting air through to the boiler. Before you turn the gas back on at the box outside (I take it this is the Gas meter box) - has the pipework had a soundness test performed to ensure there are no leaks from the removal of the cooker? If you've had the competent person establish there's no Leaks, turn the gas back on and persevere with reseting the boiler every time it locks out. May take quite a few restarts depending on distance to the meter.

just some update info with conclusions.
there seems to be some problem when boiler is starting, that trips off the gas from the main supply.
Each time we've set the gas back on from the box outside and try start the boiler a flame comes on and after couple of seconds goes off. fan stayes on.
the flame dos not come up on any further attemps, until the gas has been re-set from the box outside again, then it will start for few seconds,only on the first attemp, again and will not show until re-set again..

What kind of fault in the boiler would cause the gas to shut down?
We have no other gas appliances now the cooker's gone so can't test on anything else
 
If you mean the 'little white' reset switch on the meter governor (outside in the meter box) keeps tripping you have one of two issues.....

1) you have a serious gas leak that would be very dangerous, do you smell gas?
2) the meter governor has gone faulty, this must be rang into bord gais and they will come out to repair

who disconnected your gar cooker? was it a registered installer?
if so they are responsible and are required to check all appliances operate correctly after disconnecting you cooker for you.

Exact same thing happend to me a few weeks ago. We had replaced a boiler and were in the process of reinstating the gas, but the regulator kept tripping out. I must have reset it twenty times and was on the verge of ringing it in to BG for replacement, when it suddenly burst into life.

If your installer was a RGI he would/should have fired the boiler once he had the gas back on, I'm surprised it wasn't done. If it wasn't too long ago that the cooker was done and providing your installer is RGI, I'd be asking them back.

Maybe someone can confirm this, but if you call it into BG, they will investigate without charge as it is their property (meter and regulator).
 
Please call Bord Gais ASAP - I had the same issue and ignored it for a while as the gas came on after hitting the reset button on the boiler a few times - turned out the Flue had melted and Carbon Monoxide was leaking into house - the fitter that called was quite shocked we were not dead (i am seriously not trying to scare you).

The only thing that saved us was that we opened every window every evening to let fresh air in, that was just habbit from over the years, so again please get someone out asap to be safe. I dont want anyone to think i am scare mongering - we had a close call and its scary.

We are in Firhouse are,
A friend disconnected the cooker and a plumber that done some work for me before dropped by to make sure gas pipe that was capped of was not leaking,
Just wondering anything else I could do as I know gas is getting to boiler as I get flame for a second,
Do you repair this kind of issue ?
 
Ok, firstly, you can inform your friend, he/she has just committed an offence that warrants up to 3 years in prison or €15000 fine or both! I kid you not!

The 'plumber' MUST be RGI registered to carry out any of checks, if not, above applies to him also!

Anybody registered MUST provide you with a 'declaration of conformance' cert
once they have done ANYTHING with your gas....ANYTHING!!!

Have this ALL checked by a registered technician, turn off your gas at the meter NOW and do not use any gas until this has been checked

If in doubt, ring Bord Gais and have them call out to check it over.

YOU HAVE PUT YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY IN DANGER!
DO NOT RISK IT!

FAILURE TO DO THIS MAY WARRANT YOU GOING THE WAY OF YOUR NICKNAME!!
