Hi,
We have bought a a 1957 house with storage heating. We would like to put in gas heating. We got a quote from our builder for radiators in all seven rooms ,a combination boiler, tank in attic, supplied and fitted for 12900 plus vat. Appear expensive to me but I suppose all piping with have to be put in and it is hard to estimate how much this will cost. We are happy with the rest of the builder cost for other work. Does anyone know if this is the average price for a new heating system?
Cheers

Extremely difficult to tell you because of the age of the house, the amount of work involved, the difficulty of the work, etc. Also, for whatever reason, the job will cost more in Dublin.

Got the info. For others who might need the information. Home heating gas or oil for a 3 bed semi detach is approximately between 8k to 10k and that will include vat.

If the existing heating runs efficiently, how long will it take you to recoup the capital costs of changing the system? Is it night-rate electricity? And in an old house, changing the heating may be less effective than simply installing new insulation, which of course you should be doing anyway.

Make sure you apply for any grant you're eligible for, and you're not comparing an 'after grant' price.
