Hi All,

Any recommendations on good value furniture - both bedroom and living room?

I'm on a tight budget and would consider decent second hand furniture if in good condition.

Any recommendations pls?

If you're based in Dublin, Oxfam on Francis St can have some really good second hand furniture but you have to be really lucky or else go into the shop regularly.

hi callisto, perception from others seems to be that it is worth the trip, suppose it depends on how far your budget stretches. I'd imagine you're looking at least 30-40% savings (thats just the difference in staff costs at the moment!!!) against the south.

from an online point of view, would recommend d2d furniture who i believe cover all ireland. No connection, don't do their deliveries, did receive a table and chairs that the wife was pretty pleased with!

cant recomend going up north enough, you will save a fortune...we saved a grand on our sofa inc delivery, and about 2 grand on our appliances for a new build.try d.f.s in belfast for your sofas, fantastic selection and you can haggle a small bit on price, way cheaper up there.

Craughwell furniture is also worth a look we just got a good solid table and chairs there a few weeks ago were reasonably price too in my opinion and was delivered within a week.

Jab did you get them to deliver a sofa to you down here. I had been looking at a sofa from Next and it is way cheaper in the north but wondering how you get it delivered as they wont deliver to the south.

How were d2d to deal with? What was delivery time and quality of product?

They seem to have some good deals

Hi Callisto,

Apologies i've been in dublin last week!!!!

D2D were fine to deal with delivery was just over a week i think (though i'm in belfast)

product is of decent quality, the wife is happy anyway!!!

How's the quality of DFS sofas? HOw much would delivery from Belfast to Dublin be?

hey webbs, sorry, only seen your question now,dfs will deliver any where and same with most shops up north, small charge, dfs 200 pounds for any size load, and most others about 50 or 100 pounds, inc delivery charge its still way cheaper.

hey shei,im nearly sure its a fixed rate for delivery any where down south, about 200 pounds, quality is very good,i mean its 200 pounds if you buy 1 or 10 items, take a trip too belfast,my god what a fantastic selection, but what looks nice in a picture might not be comfortable too sit on,we had it narrowed down too 5 sofas untill we sat on them then there was only one winner.

Anyone ever use lovefurniture.ie - never heard of them before but came up on a google search and wondering if they are any good, prices look ok

I would strongly recommend going down the jumbletown.ie route, or looking at freecycle and then replacing the items over the next couple of months/years with pieces that you love.

If you buy everything at once, you'll end up making lots of compromises in quality and style, then replacing pieces in the near future. Using free/second hand stuff, gives you a bit of time. I'd start with buying a new bed, then a couch. Everthing else then follows on in good time.

Also gives you time to get a feel for the room and what size furniture fits in the room comfortably.

I am also wondering did anyone use Lovefurniture.ie- prices seem reasonable but I'd like to hear what they are like to deal with.
