Hi
I hope someone can provide some insight.
I am about to submit Form 11 for both my husband and I.
We are seperately assessed - didnt make any difference before but I am earning less now.
My problem is I can't allocate the tax bands as I wish, so I am getting a refund & my husband is incurring a hefty tax charge.
Should my husband pay the tax charge & then request the refund - or just leave it & let it wash through the system ?
He is a proprietory director & I'm worried that he will be stuck with fees & interest from the initial submission & that we will be stuck with these.
From reading some of the posts on here, revenue seem to lost all common sense!
Thanks

Not sure how Revenue has lost all common sense? Its up to you to declare what basis of assessment you want.

Under separate assessment, although you cant transfer credits or standard cut off rate band during the year, you can at the end of the year.

(under separate treatment you remain to be assessed as 2 single people and cannot transfer entitlements).

Therefore, if you are filing a tax return for 2011, attach a cover letter requesting unused allowances to be transferred to your husband.

Joint assessment would be much more benefitial in your circumstance.
