Today my self assessment form 12 was brought into the local tax office who informed me that a Form 11 should be submitted instread of the Form 12. They said that it was safer in case I was penalised for filling in the wrong form. I am a PAYE worker with an additional taxable rental income of approx €7000. In past years a form 11 had been filed online but this was not possible this year as the cert had expired and I did not have sufficient time to get it renewed. I thought that Form 12 was acceptable provided that the non PAYE income did not exceed €50,000. Any thoughts? What forms are people in similar situations using?

Ya I will just do that now but I was just wondering why Form 12 was not acceptable?

Sorry, you'll have to ask the person who told you that. Your non-PAYE income may have been too high? Or maybe they were just being awkward?

I am a PAYE worker, with small rental income for the past 5 years. I have always completed a form 12, and have never had any problems with this. I don't know why they are looking for a form 11. The covering page of the Form 12 states who it is applicable to. It seems to me that you fall into this category, as you do not have gross income outside of your PAYE inome of 50,000 Euro ot more.
I'n no expert though - just an ordinary citizen......... so you may need to get professional advice.
