Flights - War - Insurance - Rights

There are massive litigation claims at present due to the planes grounded in Russia, the insurers will not pay out.
I would not be relying on any travel insurance right now, book and prepared to lose your money is all I can say.
I am in the same boat, cruise and business class return flights booked for September, looking at €7k down the toilet if it doesn't go ahead and no refunds or claims given.

So outside of the events that are generally not covered, can anyone recommend a decent multi trip family worldwide travel insurance with easy to read T&Cs? Normally we wing it in Europe with EHIC and our health insurance coverage but this year are planning to get proper cover. Going further afield than Europe this year so really need it.

I live on the continent and wouldn’t dream of paying for extra health coverage since most EU countries will treat you under the EHIC.

BUT for extreme sports, like skiing, you need to pay for the rescue off the mountain cover. My eldest did a ski season, would not pay the insurance, due to cost, so I did, because I did the rest of the group got cover, 2 weeks later one broke their leg and had to be airlifted off. That’s 4 k depending on mountain location. We are talking winced off in a helicopters on a stretcher, not in the helicopter. Had surgery abroad, free, put on Ryanair to Dublin with 2 seats, that’s covered under your ski pass insurance. The doctors in ski resources are so skilled at those injuries that said young adult was shown as an example to the nurses and doctors in Belfast hospital, and yes they’ve been skiiing since.

If you’re on a normal holiday and get sick or injured in the EU they will fix you. Repatriation is a different matter.

For what it's worth the CCPC offer some advice on travel insurance.

Concensus is to forget about insurance cover in these circumstances and book accommodation with generous cancellation policy.
We’ve booked a week in France, if the flights don’t go they will probably refund the flights. Accommodation can be cancelled up to 48 hours in advance. Not going anywhere we cannot get back from by road/train/car if need be. So not the canaries or Greek islands, though those have boats, which is fine too.

Ireland might have cheap offers soon, if the American stay away. Which I’ve read is what’s happening with the Americans. It was very cheap in Ashford Castle after 9/11.

Are you allowed change the dates?
Potentially but hard to know what the future prices would be, we have already cancelled our holiday for next year on the basis we were going to get some work done in the house so if the flights can be moved maybe.

I guess we will all know a lot more after the latest 'deadline' tonight  My god they need to restrict social media from presidents never mind teenagers.

Sarah whatever Trump says the opposite is true, not that I listen to him. The good thing about cruises is that they can change their routes to avoid war areas. Fuel shortages they cannot avoid. I’d be more worried about a fuel surcharge.
