Hello

I have just been told that if you are in receipt of FIS then you don't havwe to pay bin charges. Does anyone know if this is true.

Thank you
J

Looks like it although it may depend on your specific local authority. See :
Am I eligible to avail of the waiver scheme for refuse charges?

Fingal County Council operates a waiver scheme, which benefits 9,000 households annually. You qualify for our waiver scheme (bin tags free of charge) if your entire household income comes from the Department of Social and Family Affairs or if your household income is not liable for income tax.
In addition to the above criteria, where the only person in the household who is liable for tax is also in receipt of Family Income Supplement from the Department of Social Community and Family Affairs, such applicants are now eligible for a waiver. If approved, a waiver will give a free fortnightly refuse collection. Application forms for the scheme are available from our Environment Department. Completed forms should be returned with recent evidence of income, for example unemployment assistance receipt or copy of payment book for each member of the household. Bin tags provided through the waiver scheme can also be used for bulky waste collection, recycling centres, purchasing compost bins etc.
For further information on the waiver scheme Contact: 01 890 6284/ 890 6252.
