First time buyer or not.....?

Hi
A friend of mine has moved over from the UK into a new job here and is looking to buy a house here in the coming months. He owns a house in the UK which he will be selling to fund purchase of his house here.

Is he considered a First Time Buyer if he has never purchased in this country before or does his UK house mean that he cannot be classed as an FTB...? He has not bought a house in Ireland before.

Unfortunately, he is not a FTB by virtue of having bought a house anywhere else.
 
Hi, Does this apply to appartments which were purchased abroad as well ?
 
Another version on this theme.........

If someone is given a house, say as a wedding present, and never had a mortgage, are they still FTB or not ?
