Fireman....any info on joining the fire fighting service?

clubman, i cant figure it out cos i cant see your expression, but i think your either trying to be funny or un-helpful. as i said i am starting to piece together info... on a career. therefore one would assume that here in the work and careers section would be a good place to throw out a question like this, to get feedback from people who know about firefighting and it as a career. i also would then use search engines to find info from other sources.... but in case u seriously just meant to be helpful and suggested google in case i didnt think of it, thank you.

If you want to be more selective about what info you want people to post then maybe phrase your query a bit more clearly/precisely...

AFAIK they only recruit every 2 or 3 years and there was a competition early this year so you will have a long wait.

I hava a close relative who is a fireman. He joined a couple of years after school. It's a tough job requiring dedication and discipline. Don't under estimate the training. You will see life in the raw too e.g. car accidents, fires, industrial accidents, domestic incidents etc. He is doing very well for himself and has progressed within the brigade through promotion. Money is not brilliant, but, you will never starve! The shifts (e.g. 3 days on 3 days off) allow time for development of outside business interests, further education or better quality family life. From what i can gather it looks like a career i would really enjoy. i have spoken to a fireman today (by chance he came in to my current place of work)....
i apologise for my rant after clubmans post... didnt realise it was a actual link to a google search he had done for me. obviously a career in computers isnt for me!! i thought he was just telling me google it!

BadSanta PM'd me to explain that he assumed that I was just pointing him at Google and did not realise that the link was to a specific search. A simple case of misunderstanding.
