Fined for returns not filed

We created a non profit association several years ago and only received €500 in revenue and paid out €6000 in expenses but never filed a return for the first year and had no activity since. We called CRO and were told it was dissolved but Revenue has fined €3000 for failure to file returns for the last 3 years. We never received any notifications to file or of the fine and only found out because we called. Is there any way to have this fine reduced? Does anyone have any advice on what we should do?
 
Who did the Revenue fine exactly? A dissolved company, a dissolved association or named individuals?

You need to explian more if it was an association that was formed. What kind of association? What were its activities?
 
Must have been a company! Expectation for those forming companies is that they have accountants who will advise them of their filing responsibilities. I would have thought that fine was CRO rather than Revenue. However you need to contact a good accountant now to establish exactly what can be done.
 
I'd imagine the OP formed a company, did what ever that did but failed to file an annual return and then the CRO struck off the company for failure to file Annual returns with audited Accounts.

The €3k is I'd imagine the late filing fees if they wished to have the Company restored.

How would the CRO know that the Revenue had fined the company.

There are a lot of responsibilities in becoming a company director, most of which people are unaware of. It's not the CRO's or the Revenue's job to tell you what to pay and when (although they do if you register on ROS). Most companies pay an accountant to look after that stuff for them.
