I'm trying to replace my house alarm battery, the system is an astec alarm system. There is a box above the internal sounder which I am having difficulty removing the cover off...I was wondering is the alarm battery in there or in another box in another position? Appreciate any help that anyone could give.

had similar problem recently, the alarm battery should be in the main control box, not the keypad.

However , it has tamper proof screws, the alarm will go of then you take eoff the cover, and they are trickly little so in so's to get back in.

Plus you may have to open it up to see what battery it is you need.

I managed and its working fine now but think I would leave it to professionals next time.

Replacing the battery in the astec can be trick for the novice as you have to remove the coiruit board to get asscee to the battery.
I would suggest getting the installer back to replace it

The main battery will be in this box usually upstairs where all the alarm cables are terminated. The battery is usually a 12 to 14 volt battery available in any good electrical trade provider, recommend bring battery with you. There is a tamper switch which goes off when you remove the cover, but this is the norm, basically what you need to do is remove the mains power to it firts usually a pull out fuse in panel then remove battery. You will still hear ab audible alarm for a few minutes as there is another capacitor type battery in the actual Bell out side on wall this will drain off in minutes. So simple remove cover, remove mains power, and remove battery. Replace battery and ....so on.
