We’re in our early 40s with a household income of approx €350-400k. We need a financial planner for pensions, investments - long term planning.
We’ve spoken to two financial planners over the last year from what seem like reputable companies and specialise in these areas. We’ve had opposite issues with each but the common problem has been with client management:
• The first (who we paid for) seemed good, but shortly after the initial call a family member fell critically ill. Someone from their follow up team hounded me by phone/email to set up income protection (it was something they said we needed on the initial call). I explained we’re having a family crisis and would come back to them when we can. Two weeks later their head of client service emailed saying they had taken us off their books because we hadn’t come back to them. After that experience we just put a hold on doing anything for a year.
• The second seemed great in the initial call a few weeks ago, very knowledgable and experienced. There’s just been no follow up. I emailed all the information they requested but they haven’t sent me anything. The communication was slow in arranging the initial call, which I overlooked but now I’m wondering if they are just too stretched.
I’m just trying to understand if this is a common issue — are good planners with good client service teams hard to find? Or is it just bad luck with who we’ve dealt with? Are we just small fish? We’re pretty clear based on all the advice we’ve received on what we should do in terms of finances but we would like an experienced CFP to oversee it / advise / discuss annually any changes we should make.
Any insights or recommendations would be much appreciated.
