I have always lived with my father who is now elderly (93) and requiring Long term Care. The family home has been in both of our names for the past ten years. If we apply for Fair Deal will the full value of the home be assessed?

As I understand it no, only 50% will be included in your fathers assets, as you own the other 50% of the home and have done so for more than 5 years. There is no harm in contacting the fair deal office in the HSE. I found them extremely helpful.

That’s my understanding and experience too.

If your Dad only owns 50% of the house, and that has been the case for the past 5 years, then he will only be assessed on 50% of the value of the house.
