Hi

I am looking for a good reliable and reasonably priced architect to prepare tender drawings for planned single storey extension in south Dublin. Anybody got a rec., from their own project? What it cost?

It's one thing putting your own details on a public forum.
Which by the way I would never do.

It would be entirely inappropriate to post someone else's info on a site like this.
But whateva....it's your forum.

Hi Jason C

Here are a few questions -

  • Is there any design work involved in this project?
  • If not has another architect already designed it?
  • If so, has that firm been paid their fees?
  • Is planning permission required for this?
The reasons I ask are as follows -

  • There can be a surprising amount of design in small works.
  • Architects cannot supplant other architects on jobs.
  • Don't assume the extension is exempt - check it.
In relation to small works, you should take a look at the RIAI Public Choice Awards

  • Ailtir(eacht),
  • House in Sandymount
  • Laneway Wall Garden House and
  • Out the Front - Window, Stoop, Bench and Store
- are all worthy of some attention.

What business would not like to see a recommendation of their services posted in a forum such as this?

Indeed, so many businesses want this that many of them have posted here pretending to be satisfied customers recommending their own services!

I agree and the opposite also happens when they threaten to sue when a bad review pops up here..

Threats to sue are thankfully very rare. In cases where a company does go to that extreme, we generally remove any mention of them, positive or negative. Of course we much prefer the more frequent occasions where the compeny register as a user and work with the poster to resolve any issues.
