Hi
I got a volkswagen touareg 2005 that i was thinking of exporting to new zealand as im moving there later this year or early next year. Just need to find out if im going crazy or not :) Maybe somebody has done this before not sure.

A few questions:
Does anybody know a shipping company that would do this?
Any idea of the prices involved?
Do nz have an import tax (vrt)
Anybody know of a new zealand askaboutmoney kinda site?
Should i just off load it here before i go.

Thanks

without stating the obvious, research it to death.

I know someone who exported a jeep to Oz and it ran up to 5k euro by the time he had it cleared and back in his hands.

We exported 2 cars to France.
Only because we could not sell them here.
The costs of transport were minimal, just drove them onto the ferry.

BUT the cost of registering them in France was significant over €1000 each for various bills such as changing headlights, NCT, road tax, new plates etc.

So in my experience what would have worked much better for us was..

Sell our cars in Ireland (v hard to do)
Buy new second hand car in UK..we could have upgraded by 3 yrs.
Bring UK cars to France.

We would not buy second hand in France because the prices are higher than Ireland.

Your main problem I think will be selling the Toureg

Good luck

Take a look at this forum it has some Touaregs for sale. It might give you an idea of cost of buying one over in Aus/New Zealand if you sold your own here first. We returned from Oz to Ireland 10 yrs ago and shipped our belongings back by container. There was room in the container to ship our car back but we decided against it.
