If a house has had a side extension added consisting of a garage and kitchen, which was built with full planning permission 25 years ago, does this restrict the exempted limit of 40 sqm that can be built to the rear of the same house?

The information I am getting seems to suggest that the 40 sqm exemption will be reduced by the size of the current extension, even if this had full planning permission granted.

Any views would be appreciated.
 
That is my understanding as well.
Ask the local authority, planning dept, they will clarify over the phone.
 
Yes, it does restrict it.
40 sq.m. maximum including all post 1963 extensions whether needed permission or not.
