I'd also be very curious to hear some other people's experiences on this too. I applied, did the exams in the RDS, got a letter telling me I'd placed quite well in my geographic region (not Dublin), was sent a complicated "pre-interview questionnaire" back in January (I think), e-mailed it back before the deadline and since then - nothing. Not even an acknowledgement.
Can anyone elaborate on what comes next - or possibly came next for them? Should I assume that's the end of the road for me?

i imagine they take their own civil service sweet time and I wouldn't be sending in my notice any time soon if I were you
...I regret not applying now as i stupidly thought that i would be changing jobs if sucessful at a time when it was definately not good for me. That was months ago - nearly 9.
Big wheels certainly turn very slowly.

Did the EO exams a few years back and the same sort of process happened to me. It was almost a year between being told I got the exams and being given a date for an interview. i think I got the interview form a good 6 or 8 months before I was called to interview!

It was rubbish. The whole process was regionalised for a start.I got a job in Cork and i know that considerably more than 6 were recruited in Cork alone.
Usrbin, i got the pre-interview thing in Febuary, interview and second exam in March, new position on panel half way through March, job offer in April.
It does depend on the region you're in and how many vacancies they have, but i would check with Public Appointments to confirm that they got your application and to see how many appointments have been made in your area.

In case anyone is still wondering... I was invited to an interview in Dublin this week (the pre-interview questionnaire was received and had to be returned in January ** 2006 **).
I didn't go, the interest levels have fallen way off since first looking into it and the salary cut would be ridiculous anyway. Just posting this in case anyone entering future PSA competitions gets to wondering how long between questionnaire and interview - the answer is, it can be almost two years!

I got into the civil service through open competitons, first as a CO, did exam online in September, exam in Chapter House in December, interview February and started job in March, i didn't think that was too bad! while waiting i rang the offices a couple of times and was updated. If you don't hear anything back there's always the option of picking up the phone!
