hi there,
Can anybody help me on this issue. We have a BT fixed line connection. we get the bill every two months, but we are charged for three months rental charges since july 07. We called customer service and they said that they will deduct in the next bill, instead they are charging more. this the fourth time we have this problem. can anyone please let me know how to approach and quick way to get our money back.

hi,

i know how you feel, i had the exact same over charging problem with BT as had my brother - coincidence? mmmm......

anyway i had to ring BT several times and complain. they eventually got it sorted as did my brother.

if i were you i would ring them again, tell them that you intend to contact comreg (which you should anyway) and demand that these billing "errors" stop.

From past experience, I wouldn't bother ringing them at all, much less Comreg. Write to them explaining the error and tell them you're instructing your bank to cancel your DD arrangement and that you will henceforth manually pay them online what you actually owe. Then deduct what they've overcharged you, pay the correct amount, and let them sort it out.

Do a for "BT billing errors" (or "joke", or "nightmare", or "incompetence", etc.) and you'll see what I mean.

I moved house in December 2006 and was left with a credit on my BT Account €97.00.

I got the broadband set up in my new house when it was ready in May 2007 and requested BT carry over the credit to the new account. I finally got the credit moved over in March 2008 after about 20 million phone calls.

I am sorry I did not cancel the D/D until it was sorted.

I had the same problem for the first 3 bills where I was over charged after complaining. As above, it will eventually get sorted, theyre just so slow about it. If youre going to call them make sure its before 10am, they normally answer quite quickly before then.
When you do get through to them ask the guy whos going to sort it what his name is and what hes going to do so the next time you get an overcharge ring and ask for that guy. Oh, and definitely get off direct debit.

BT are well known for their billing issues. I think you need to be heavy handed with them, as otherwise it seems to drag out for ages.
