Anyone know how many rows and columns in the there are in later versions of Excel? I am using Excel 2000 which only has 256 columns, too small for what I do.
Maybe you should consider a different solution (like a database), if you need more than 256 columns.I am using Excel 2000 which only has 256 columns, too small for what I do.
I'll second that - I'd have gone the database route long before reaching 256 columns, but not Access.Maybe you should consider a different solution (like a database), if you need more than 256 columns.
Most modern databases can replicate graphical and other functionality directly or with links to spreadsheet applications like Excel. An example is FileMaker Pro which is available as 30-day trial download. It can import the data and column-names directly from Excel, one discrete record per Excel row.I need the graphical and macro functions of Excel - can these be replicated on a database?

I never suggested using two applications - Filemaker can populate the database directly from Excel without the need to type the data in all over again. So why would | use two applications instead of one?
What about trying openoffice.org - it's Sun's Free version of MS Office, it might not have that 256 column restriction and it also has its own database software...
