Excel-charting product, category, and 12 monthly sales

I am having a problem with pivot tables/charts. I have a spreadsheet with the following columns: product, category, and 12 monthly sales columns. I want to graph the sales by category, with category on the Y axis and month on the X axis, but I can't get the months to form the axis, the category side of things is fine. I have seen a sample chart that does exactly that, but I can't see how they did it. Any help much appreciated.

Hi BB,

I dont think this is a pivot table issue (unless your data is the outcome of a pivot talbe).

try selecting your data (include the categories but dont include the products), then chart, area, and choose the 2nd sub category to the right stacked area, then finish. I think this should work.
