Escaping Manufacturing Job

I have a B Eng in Electronic Eng. Worked in electronic/manufacturing engineering for 5 years before quitting.
Went back to college full-time for one year. Grad Dip in Computer Engineering. Basically an IT/programming course.
Electronics was sshhiittee.
This is far better. I'll never look back.
 
A conversion course might do it but you need to factor in the financial implications for a (full-time) year of study. Have you thought about doing a part-time course maybe over two years. There's loads of Masters etc geared for people in full time work, check out www.postgrad.ie. Professional career advice will help. You might find a new direction you hadn't thought of.

yup a lot of people i know did elect eng are now s/w developers
 
keep an eye out on publicjobs.ie the jobs advertised can have degrees as requirements but then often an exam after that will decide if you get an interview rather than your work history, People ive met come from all backgrounds Manufacturing , IT etc pretty varied.
 
Is there any chance of getting day release or something similar from your job to do a course? Many of these multi-nationals (mine anyway) will pay your way through college. If it's even remotely related to the business it should be acceptable to them..
 
Any opportunities to move to other roles within your current employer? People management? Project Management? HR? The multi-nationals are generally pretty good at giving other career options to long-term employees.
