Equity release for pensioners?

My parents are struggling on the state (non-contributory) pension and looking at the equity release products designed for pensioners. One of them,by a company called RRL, seems like a very bad deal. One of the banks, Bank of Ireland I think, seems better but I was wondering if anyone has any experience of this area.
