FAS's "A-Z Subject Index"
has the entry "Equality (Women)" .... a contradiction if ever I saw one. Indeed a page search for "Men" has no hits whereas the corresponding search for "Women" has 5 hits. All men are born equal and all women are born superior to men!? What does this say about this state agency (and others?)?

On a (sort of) related issue ... there was a discussion on [broken link removed] current affairs programme yesterday in which the serious issue of physical and emotional abuse of women was tackled. One of the contributors dismissed historical factors such as family upbringing and/or experience of abuse as influencing the actions of abusive men in such situations. However she went on to blame a lot of such abuse by men on the increasing availability of "hard-core" pornographic material. Nobody picked her up on this point which seemed completely contradictory (i.e. long term environmental factors are not influential but, for some reason, a specific short term one is). Most of the discussion was based on vague anecdotal and empirical observations rather than any hard information. Typical Karen Coleman rubbish masquerading as serious discussion so I'm not sure why I'm surprised... :\
