Engagement Ring Insurance

Is it possible to insure an item like an engagement ring on its own? I've been told by a couple of insurance companies that they will only insure it as part of a house policy?

We are living with family at the moment and so dont have our own house insurance.

thanks

It needs to be insured in the "all-risks" section of a house policy - otherwise it is only insured in the house! Add it on the the family policy and give them the fee and when ye get own house it can be removed from family policy and included in your own.

My wife's engagment ring is insured separately. You need to amend your house contents policy so that it covers loss and damage to stuff outside your house (e.g. lost ring, lost coat etc).

We insured mine as "all risks" under our house insurance. We had to provide a valuation certificate from the jewellers. Afaik this is the only way you can insure it.

As suggested above, get it added to the address where you are living at the moment and give the homeowner the premium.
