Employment Status when Applying for a Mortgage

Myself and my partner are first time buyers and we will be applying for a mortgage at the beginning of next year.
We are both in Permanent Full Time jobs but recently I went for an interview for a better job with better salary. The problem is that its a 3 year contract and not permanent (I only found this out at the interview)

My question is (if i get offered the job) will this affect my application for a mortgage or am I better off staying in my current secure job?

The contract job will affect the application as most will (rightly?) assume that it'll be difficult to secure another job afterwards and there may be some downtime.
Switching jobs by choice doesn't appear to have any impact, or at least that is what I got from the bank. Once they are back to back employments and you have finished the initial probation period.
