The ECB is looking to introduce standardised supervisory practices for how to handle NPLs (non performing loans).
A consultation has started with views to be submitted by 15 November 2016.
In a pre-consultation research paper 8 countries were studied including Ireland. Significant differences in legal systems were also noted, with foreclosure/debt enforcement cited as an “obstacle” to NPLs in three of the eight countries and the judicial system cited as an obstacle in all eight countries bar Germany and Spain.
