E-Working/TeleCommuting + Public Sector

Hi all,

A friend of mine has been offered a job in the public sector as a statisticain..Basically to take this job would mean a serious increase in her commute time to just under 3hours per day..Before she decides on taking this job,does anyone here work in the public sector know of the chance of her getting a few days of e-working or teleworking?The position is as a statisticain in the CSO.

presumably if your friend was 'offered' the job then she must have applied for it? there is some scope for e-working in the civil service but it seems to be done at a local level, there was a pilot study done on it and some people were allowed to try it but I can't recall seeing any report published. her best bet would be to discuss this with the cso themselves and to try and come to some arrangement with them. it won't hurt to ask and she may be pleasantly surprised by their attitude.
 
Yes there was definetly some pilot studies done in this area but not sure what the general consensus was on it..I'd say teleworking/e-working would probably be decided on a case by case basis..but no harm in asking i guess all they can say is no:)

Its probably at the whim of whomever they report to.
