Ductless Mini-Split Heat Pump

Hi all
My husband and I live on the West Coast of Canada in BC where the winters are mild. We have been told that heat pumps are used all over Europe and that they are popular. Since this is relatively new to us here, I would like to get some opinions on how well they work in heating a 1700 sq.foot home as a primary heat source. I think the heat pump (outside) recommended feeds to 4 indoor units placed in each of the 4 rooms. The indoor units look like an air-conditioner. We are not concerned about the cooling part since Vancouver is relatively mild in the summers. Thanks.

Hi,
They are very popular in nordic countries, but, from what I have read, you need a dwelling that is pretty energy efficient in design, with a low air infiltration.

From reports I have read, the installation of them makes a big difference in the performance, use the DECC web site (England dept of energy) and the carbon trust UK site for relevent info.

Colm.
