Hi, does anyone know of any service in mayo/galway that can bring a water pipe across a road without digging. I know of one myself but his price is a little high! It is basically drilling horizontaly.
 
Unless, you are on the most back of back roads with very few other people using it, DO NOT chance digging the trench without permission. The council will go to town on you if they cop it, and it will become a very expensive trench!!

In Cork, officially you must pay the council a fee to allow you to dig the road, and it must be done by a contractor who is approved by the council.

Also bear in mind that if you dig the road without the proper go ahead and there is an accident later, you could be liable....even if you had very little to do with causing it!

That's one of the reasons this country has some of the worst roads in europe for potholes etc.

Digging and re-instating a road is a job that requires permission, knowledge and expertise. I would doubt that any contractor with the relevant skill to do the job properly would hop to and trench across a road for you, therefore anyone who does probably is chancing it.
 
I am a fully qualified engineer.This is a costy saving exercise.Let me explain.
Your trench width is 450mm.Using consaw cut the width of trench across the road.Dig trench to a depth of 900mm.Lay your duct on a sand surround.You can even lay warning tape on top of the sand.Fill the remainder of the trench with 804 compacted in 200mm layers with a whacker plate.Fill to road level with 804.The next time your buddy from the council road gang is passing by remove the top 100mm of 804 whack the stone again and lay tarmac.There will be no pothole issues with this.

re bringing a water pipe under a road is it a 1inch pipe ?. If so I know someone IN Roscommon who can drill under the road quickly and safely If interested ph me 087-6305440 and Ill give u more details.
 
my question wasn't about opening the road. I am digging the land either side of the road and am looking to bore through from one side to the other just large enough to pass a 3/4 inch pipe.
was wondering if anyone else has used this method instead of digging up the road.
I know that some group water schemes use method to lay pipes under walls and other obstacles.

There are some Irish companies who specialise in coreing under roads for 3", 4", 6" inch water mains and higher. There is a company in Listowel called Hilltwister who do this kind of work.

I saw a piece of equipment at the ploughing which bored 1/2", 3/4" and 1" water connections. I cant remember the name.

Not the best advice by any means.........you get a downpour of rain, your nicely filled trench of 804 will wash away in 10minutes.....council will get a call from a neighbour up the road, they'll come assess and then reinstate and should then charge you.
No one should ever consider doing a road crossing......the liability issues are huge.....leave it to the professionals.......imagine if ever Tom Dick and Harry decided to do there own trench crossings!!!
 
Hi I could do with a piece of advise:
There was an old stone drain under the road just at our new site drain going back into out site which caused flooding. After hounding the council they put a pipe under the road, no charge (this is about 1.5years ago) left big trench just outside our ditch and pipe under road. Also pipe wasn't low enough to carry water accross. Hounded council again, said not their problem and if we want it dropped will have to pay.
