hi there

My house is around 8 years old- I bought it 2 years ago, its a mid terrace townhouse in an estate. The problem is the front of the house gets much colder than the back, my sister is always complaining that her room is freezing it feels like the window is open all the time. They are double glazing windows and the windows are the same all over the house, so why just one side cold, is it due to that side getting less sun?! maybe they are not sealed properly Who should i get in to check it out? Should i get a BER and avail of the grant thing thats available or just a window/door person? The front door is wooden and can feel draft at the bottom and side of it. Help greatly appreciated.

Where is the room positioned in terms of the sun? It may not get any day light and also might have two exposed walls which will lend it to being one of the coldest rooms in the house - my box room is like this.
You could either dry line the room or consider external insulation for it.

no th ehouse is sandwiche dbetween two others so just one expossed wall-the window wall. Whwn it is windy it feels drafty at the window

What you probably need is thermal imaging done - to see if there is a leak, or if there is cold bridging etc.

Here is a link to an example of the service and a company who do it. No idea who these guys are - they were just the first guys who popped up on Google with the relevant service:

In a significant number of houses built during the boom years, builders were inclined to use lower cost double glazed pvc windows.

A re-occurring problem with these windows is the poor quality window hinges that were uses. Low quality window hinges will bend and sag even with limited use. When this happens the windows when closed would leave a gap between the window frame and the window opening normally adjacent to the hinge.
If you have gaps in these areas the window hinges will likely need to be replaced, preferably with more robust ones and lubricated at least once a year

thanks for reples- woulds thermal imaging be carried out in ber
