Am hoping to put low voltage downlighters in a vaulted ceiling in conservatory, any recommendations? Have been advised by someone that it may not be a good idea as they would be very close to roof and not much space above them, may be a fire hazard, beside insulation, any suggestions.
Is it possible to use downlighters in all rooms, can be be used with a dimmer switch. Are there any rooms that they would not be suitable for eg. bedroom.

Are you refering to spotlights in the ceiling? If so then they can be used in any room of the house my friend who happens to be a sparky has these installed in almost every room in his house with no issues.
Just make sure that you get a fully qualified sparky to do the job.

Good Luck ;)

Yes, you need to be very careful if there is insulation in the ceiling. My husband installed some in our kitchen about 2 weeks ago and because the part of the ceiling he was putting them in was insulated, the heat melted some of the plastic around the back of them. Ideally, you should get someone qualified to do it.

Sensai Duncan dont like 'em. Can leak heat into cavity - also overheating issue as discussed.
Can be used with dimmers.

The trouble with "green" builders is that to take things to their conclusion we'd all be living in caves or holes in the ground. Its a question of balance as to what is "environmentally sympathetic" and what works for you.
