Thinking of buying a house here in "Beverton" any info good or bad would be greatly appreciated.

I Currently in Donabate and I wouldn't recommend it, Like you i was thinking of buying in Donabate and i am glad i lived there before i made a decision, the village itself is rundown and dirty although the spar is fine but very busy.

An awful lot of boy racers around and there is very little to do in the place apart from the Golf of course. there is a new sewerage plant proposed for the doanabate/portrane area.

The trains are always packed in donabate and you wont get a seat in the mornings. There is a element that hangs around the village and chipper areas. The infrastrcture is poor. The beach is lovely but is often taken over by joyriders doing donuts and the odd burnt out car. Personally I think its crazy allowing cars onto the beach in the first place.

Thats about it,
personally i am looking forward to leaving the area.

If you are really thinking of buying there, ensure that you live there for a while before you buy and make up your own Mind.

I agree with Sully. I lived in Donabate for 1 year. I really liked the village setting at first but there are not many amenities for the amount of housing estates being built, houses are overpriced, and i dreaded every morning having to squeeze on to the train, most mornings didnt get on and had to wait for a later one. The Spar was ok too busy, i went to swords after a while to do my shopping, you couldnt socialise in Donabate 1 pub that you could drink, the other you wouldnt go near you would have to go to swords or surrounding areas.

I moved to Donabate about 3 months ago and I really like it.
  • Keelings (the pub) isn't pub of the year or anything but it's alright.
  • There's a lovely chinese restaurant called Chungs
  • An Italian restaurant but have't tried that yet
  • A decent enough supermarket though you would be better off going to swords or ordering on tesco.ie for your weekly/monthly shop.
  • A good, cheap gym
  • A chipper, 2 other chinese takeaways, and a pizza takeaway
  • Video shop
  • A beach
  • Train station
  • An off-licence - which is a rip - but handy if ur stuck
  • Newbridge House and Demesne for a walk or run
I do agree with some of the other points made, especially about the roads and paths (or lack of) and about the trains being packed. I've always been able to get on the train though. I get the one at 7:30 now and while I never get a seat there's enough room i.e. no one's in your own (wave hands around) "private space" and you don't have to look into someones earhole for half an hour.

About the "element": anywhere there's an estate or two there's going to be young lads hanging around the chipper. And although it depends on your own definition of the word I suppose, I wouldn't go so far as to call them an element because there doesn't seem to be much, or even any, trouble out of them at all.

I think it's the same everywhere you go.

I think the train service will improve in the next few years and eventually it will be served by the DART.

In my experience of living in Donabate for the past year I would never, ever buy here. It's a total dump , here's why:
There is an extraordinary amount of boy racers in an area with a relatively small population whizzing about at every hour of the day and night. In between the trips to the beach to do donuts not to mention flying in around housing estates. This is not normal in most housing estates at least not respectable, middle-class ones anyway.

Checkout the amount of social affordable housing zones in Donabate. If I had bought here I would have been sickened by this.maybe it explains the boy-racers......

I am 27 years old ,educated, liberal so thankfully I have time, energy and money to buy elsewhere. If you are thinking of buying -don't,there are better places to buy, much better. Also the 7:50 train is packed to suffocation point, frequently see people fainting.

Hi there!

I grew up on Donabate, well we have a mobile home in Corballis for over 20 years now. I really enjoyed spending the lazy summer days on the beach, bunking on to the golf course in the evening to play a few rounds or taking walks in NewGrange Park.

Drink:
The Dunes Hotel beside the beach not sure what its called now but there was always a good atmosphere!
Keeling Pub in the village they are currently renovating the pub and turning the old barn out the back into an extension. This pub was always my favourte especially over the Donabate festival weekends. Spending most of my evenings in the beer garden enjoying a really good pint of guinness!
Smiths Pub beside the train station. Never really spent much time there but I believe they have done the pub up in recent times. The crowd is young so may not be my cup of tea.

As for the bad element.....nonsense..... kids hanging around beside the field in the village playing football and having a laugh. Everyone was a kid once. And the last thing I wanted to do when I was a child was to sit in doors and watch TV especially in Donabate. I've never seen much trouble in Donabate and the trouble I did see came from people not living in the area, down there for the weekend.

Gym, Supermarket, shops, restaurants, pubs, hotel, take aways, video shops, ATMs, Parks, beaches, caves, cliff walks tell you one thing!! I wish the area I live in now had all these activities!!!! I agree with you about not finding a seat on the train in the mornings, hey I live around Glasnevin, I get the bus every morning, never really get a seat and always end up standing!

Its a nice area a much slower pace of life yet your still practically in Dublin!

Well they were my thoughts!

About the anti-social behaviour 'element', is it any worse than anywhere else ? Can anyone else comment on this ? My old neighbours moved into Hazelwood from Swords about 1 year ago and they think Donabate is fine.

Hi folks. I moved into Beverton last year and have to say that I love it, as do most of the neighbours. I think that there are a few comments previously about Donabate in general, but they may not be accurate in relation to Beverton specifically. The estate is beautiful and full of greens spaces. The only kids around are in the 2 -12 year old bracket playing on the green. The estate has ramps throughout to deter speeding. A gateway has recently opened up to the village down by the old rail bridge making it a 10 minute walk to the shops.

Location wise, it is on the other side of the rail tracks to the village, so being a little away from the beach and chippers, it may be the reason why I would not be perturbed by the issues raised by others. The village is nice - agree it may be a little small for the numbers of houses being built, but more facilities will come on line with time. The community centre is lovely, Keelings pub has been done up and looks brilliant, while Smyths may bow to the pressure and spend a shilling or two. The half seven train is never packed - you will stand but you have plenty of space. There is also a half six train. Newbridge House and Desmesne is beautiful and there are a numebr of golf courses also around which will keep a country feel to some of the areas. The beaches are beautiful also.

All in all, having moved from Lucan, where you can barely say there is anything facility wise, we absolutely love Donabate and Beverton particularly as we have a young family. But as people always advise, drive around the areas at night and all other times before committing to the purchase.

I've not seen any element at all there. Like most places, teenagers *exist* in Donabate! And like most places too, so does a percentage of affordable housing which is neither here nor there. Thankfully there's one less snob now!:
Sully:Checkout the amount of social affordable housing zones in Donabate. If I had bought here I would have been sickened by this
As Alfie says, the best thing you can do is go for a spin around at night so you can see for yourself.

Hi,

I've been living in donabate now for the past 4 months have found the place great.
I dont know where all this anti social behaviour is going on ?

I see groups of kids around the place alright but they are sitting on walls, outside the chipper, at bus stops etc etc etc. If anything from the time Ive moved in I have found the place a little too quite!! Never had a word said to me walking through the village late at night, hardly even see anyone.

I'm sure in some estate the groups of kids can be annoying hanging around on the greens maybe but I have none of this in my estate.

As for all the social housing going in :)
All the snobs can come back now its safe for another while at least

I moved into the Links about 2 months ago. Came from renting in Ballsbridge. Really like the area. Settled families mostly. The trains in the morning are pretty full, but apparently there are 3 more coming online over the next 12 months. 25 mins to the city centre is great though.
The 'element' are just a bunch of kids with too much free time on their hands.. like me when I was 16.
The odd boy racer is annoying, but harmless. Mostly the village is quiet with all the commuters ducking into their homes never to be seen again.

I have moved in and have to say I'm extremly happy. Haven't seen any trouble whatsoever, so far everything is great. Any negative thoughts I was having are gone, thanks a million for all your replies, Drinks are on me in Smyths!!!!!

Hi, I am looking for information on local creches as planning on moving to the area. Would appreciate if you could let me know of creches in Donabate ( I know about Linda's creche and Treehouse childcare)

thanks

I have been living in donabate for the past 5 years and have my 21 month daughter in Linda's creche and I have to say they are fantastic and I go to work everyday with a clear head knowing that she is well looked after and the care they give her is 100%. they teach her lots and she has come on so much since starting there a year ago.
Linda's creche is opened 18-20 years and she has a great name around the village.
I would strongly reccomend you send your child there!!!

Its a good idea to live somewhere before you buy there.

I've lived in Donabate for two years now and I really like it.
Almost all the houses in Donabate are owner-occupied which makes for well kept estates, a very strong community spirit and low levels of crime and anti-social behaviour. it has great beaches, golf courses and newbridge house and park. Under transport 21 it will have the dart and be very close to the metro. Fingal have plans to futher develop the area over time, developing and expanding the town centre and building more houses.

Id recommend it but try it for yourself. rent here, talk to people living here and visit the paricular area you are thinking of buying at different times of the day.

Reviving this thread as I'm looking in the area now ;) So any observations of late? I've seen quite a few houses there and the area looks great, close to the sea and the train line, etc. Although under developed for the amount of houses there...

- Where is the gym located?
- Does anyone know of any plans for the place to be developed a little? Even the off license is closed now!

S

Won't be much development with current slowdown I'd say thesteve. Fingal have ambitious plans for the peninsula though:

"The proposed development shall include; new entrances, a car park with a 120 car parking spaces, 250 allotments,
3km of walkways, a new bridge adjacent to the railway bridge, woodland and hedgerow planting, hay meadows,
reintroduction of cattle to graze the grasslands and interpretative facilities"
