Domiciliary Care for speech delay/OT issues?

I was reading through some other posts about DCA. I'm wondering if anyone has been approved having a child with a speech disorder (severe) and also has gross/fine motor delays.

Just had my meeting with the area medical officer and was told my son probably wouldn't qualify as it's 'only speech'. Though I did state that we have had no choice but to pay for private therapy as my son's needs are not being met due to lack of staff/waiting lists.

You should apply anyway & back up your application with as much documentation on your childs condition as possible.

Is there a definete diagnosis for your child yet?
If so perhaps there is a support group that might be able to help you with your entitlements.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. I did submit the reports that I have from 3 HSE Drs. He does have a definite diagnosis. Resource hours were just approved for him and I'm now trying to arrange for an SNA - his therapists and teacher say he must have one. Of course have to wait for approval. I haven't heard anything yet from DCA. But I know it takes awhile.

Hi there,

I'm just wondering how you got on with your DCA application in the end?? I had my meeting with the Area Medical Officer last week so am waiting to hear back in a couple of weeks. My son has a diagnosis of Autism.
