Does stint as contractor count towards years of service?

I was a contractor for 2 years before being made permanent in my current job. I may be made redundant soon. The 2-year contract was via an agency. It was same role, same team and same manager as when I was made permanent. It was also onsite in same company.

Would these 2 years count towards my years of service - would anyone know if there is any official line on this?

thanks!

your employer is the person who pays your wages, ie the agency for the first 2 years then the company.

If you were a true contractor, then no, the 2-years would not count.

If you should have been classed as an employee, rather than a contractor, then the prior years should be counted. The test for whether you are a contractor or an employee is covered is discussed in a number of threads here and also on the Revenue site.
