Does Bank of Ireland deal with mortgage brokers?

We have an existing BoI tracker. We want to trade up and carry our existing balance to BoI’s tracker plus 1 percent product. I approached a broker about assisting us with this but was told that for regulatory reasons BoI is prevented from working with brokers at the moment? This seems odd to me. Can anyone confirm if this is correct? Many thanks.

Yes, it was part of the bailout that BoI sell off ICS, its mortgage broker arm and BoI were stopped from selling through brokers for a period. That period will be up soon and BoI may return to the broker market.

But why would you go to a broker for such a transaction? You can do that yourself.

If your case is not that solid, then ask a good mortgage broker to advise you for a fee on how to present your case, but you will present it yourself.

BOI have been in a position to re-enter the broker market since the start of 2017. They decided earlier this year to do so, and they are currently in the process of recruiting staff to service broker business. They plan to launch on a pilot basis very soon, with a view to rolling out to a wider broker market soon afterwards.
