Do banks ever agree "forgive" credit card debt

Hello all,
We are a couple with a mortgage, two personal loans and a credit card debt of 5k. We have never missed a payment on any loan but the credit card debt seems to be endlessly creeping up.

We are about to receive 3k from a relation. If I wrote to the bank and offered 3k to settle the credit card debt, is there any realistic chance they would accept this?

Plus, would such a settlement affect out credit rating etc?

Thanks

presumably you have been servicing the minimum payment on this balance up to now. If so you will be classified as an acceptable risk client and the offer of 3k will be declined.
In order for any settlement offer to be considered you must be in default in terms of meeting the repayments. This will effect your credit rating.
Given the low amount and the fact that you will receive a 3k lump sum you should consider reducing the balance by this amount and either obtaining a loan elsewhere at a lower interest rate to clear the balance or alternatively putting aside a reasonable amount each month to clear the remainder.

Simple answer is no. Why should they forgive your debt its not like you cant afford it
as 44brendan suggested pay the 3k off the CC, get a loan for the rest and cut up the CC
