Disposing of Coal Ash

I've been putting coal ashes from fire (cold) into waste bin for a good while, but got a text from Country Clean today that they will be weighing in future.
Interested to know what's the best way to get rid.

I collect them in a metal bucket then transfer when full to an empty coal bag and into the waste, these bags can indeed be heavy but like yourself I cannot see an alternative, during the summer it's my grass that adds weight but this year I cut it more often and left it on the lawn which worked well.

Think I saw a gardening program lately which used ash to surround their lettuce and cabbage patches. Apparently the slugs won't cross it. May be of use to allotment owners ?

We leave grass on the lawn as well so ashes will be going in bin. Neighbour down the road used to dump their ashes outside a farmers roadside ditch until they were caught and told to clean it up.

Pure wood ash can go on plants/lawns etc., and is a good fertilizer.

coal or peat briquette ash is acidic & will damage them
