DIRT exemption for over 65's

My Mum has deposit income through a deposit account in her own name, on which she is paying Dirt. My Dad turned 65 in July. Can my Mum claim exemption from Dirt as her spouse is 65 or over?
Their joint income is below €40K. My Mum went to the bank to ask them, but they said that it would apply in her case if she and her spouse held a joint account. Is this correct?

my reading of it, is that she would be eligible for refund of DIRT as spouse is 65 or over, even though she is sole account holder?
