For my many past sins I am involved in a charity in a senior role.
We are planning a dinner and so that none of the charity funds are being used I have decided to sponsor it under my company name and pay for the meal from company funds.
Those attending are not customers or employees and neither are they potential customers of mine.
No, the vat isn't deductible. There is a tax deduction available for donations to charities and conditions attaching to it. However if not paying this directly to a charity I'm not sure it will be available as a deduction. There are also other restrictions on the tax deductions for such donations.
