For my many past sins I am involved in a charity in a senior role.

We are planning a dinner and so that none of the charity funds are being used I have decided to sponsor it under my company name and pay for the meal from company funds.

Those attending are not customers or employees and neither are they potential customers of mine.

Is this cost deductable and vat reclaimable?

No, the vat isn't deductible. There is a tax deduction available for donations to charities and conditions attaching to it. However if not paying this directly to a charity I'm not sure it will be available as a deduction. There are also other restrictions on the tax deductions for such donations. Here is a link to the Revenue website so you can get a flavour of the rules around it https://www.revenue.ie/en/companies...ion-scheme/what-is-a-qualifying-donation.aspx

Thanks. That seems to be for personal donations,, but probably best to err on cautious side as vat amount is only about €150

Give a donation to the charity.. tax deductible.
Then get them to foot the bill.
Everybody wins.
