Digging Up Garden and Replacing With Stone Chippings

I'm thinking of digging up my front garden and putting down stone chippings there rather than slabs, etc. What exactly is involved? How deep should I go to remove the soil? Do I simply then get the chippings and put them down? Should I put a layer of anything between the ground and the chippings? I'd kerb off the edges and one or two areas for bushes, shrubs etc.

I'm interested in suggestions from anyone who's done something similar as well as technical info.

Thanks,

Lex.

You just remove the topsoil down as far as the subsoil, lay your kerbs on 15n semi-dry concrete, back them with the same, put a layer of geo-textile membrane down on the subsoil and cover with your chips then.

Thanks, Baldyman. Is the membrane to keep weeds etc. away?
