DID Electrical text messages - UK number used for replies

I received an advertising text message this morning from DID electrical about their sale starting tomorrow. I bought items from them a few years ago, so must have given my mobile number as a contact.

The number used to send the text, and the number to reply to if I want to unsubscribe is a UK mobile number. While I want to unsubscribe, I'm a tad wary of replying to a non-Irish number!

Anyone else get this? Do you think it's okay or have I just been reading too many of the posts in the "scam" thread here!

Yes just got my text - no big deal -why bother unsubscribing - you only get a text once in a blue moon.

I got one of these also; if you haven't agreed to receive them this is spam and illegal.

I've emailed DID - I'm certainly not going to reply to a UK number

OP can't remember giving the number let alone whether he agreed to receive these messages or not, so talk of spam and illegal is unwarranted.

They ask you for your mobile number so on the morning of delivery of goods they text you with a more specific time.

The spam issue wasn't my concern, it was more that the "100% Irish company" as they advertise on their website and adverts was using a UK mobile number for texts!

While I can't remember giving them my number, I'm not suggesting that they got it by nefarious means - I did buy from them, so probably gave my number. Don't remember being asked about future texting though and I'm usually very careful to tick the opt-out boxes.

(PS - it's she by the way :))
Thanks all!

As mentioned, you do usually give them your number to receive a text about delivery times. I did this, and was not asked whether or not I would like to receive text messages., they just sent them anyway.

I did reply to stop the unsolicited messages but didn't realise it was a UK number. Now I'm a bit annoyed to be honest.

I received it also. I definitely never agreed to them sending me spam sms messages.

I emailed them the following:

Sir/Madam,

This morning I received a SPAM SMS message from your company. The message itself came from a UK mobile number (+447781482196).

The body of the text is as follows:
"D.I.D. Electrical SALE-start Sat28th@10. SALE+10% back on sales over 1,500 or 20% back over 3,500.C todays paper r did.ie. 2UNSUBSCRIBE TXT STOP TO+447781482196"

This is an abuse of the information that you hold on your system about me, I never agreed to receive unsolicited text messages when I purchased electrical items from you.

According to the RegTel code of practive on SMS services:
"• Service providers, or any person or company acting on their behalf, must not send ‘unsolicited’ (spam) text messages

............"

The Data Protection Commissioner enforces the European and Irish laws which ensure that personal information is only used in the manner which the person intended.

Please remove me from your distribution list immediately. Do not send further SMS messages to my number (+353 87 xxx xxxx). Should I receive any further unsolicited messages I will take action with the Data Protection Commissioner.

Sincerely
XXXXX
