Folks,

What is the best option for putting £GBP on deposit? I have some sterling
currently and with the exchange rate so weak, plan on keeping it on deposit
until the rate strengthens again. Can afford to sit on it for a while, so term
type deposits are an option. Thanks in advance, apple1

I opened an account with Northern Bank in Enniskillen, with no hassles. Think the savings account is paying about 4.5%. You probably can get better with the likes of Northern Rock but this was hassle free. I tried to open one with Ulster Bank but it was too much hassle. I have a Euro account with NIB and can transfer between both with ease and no charges.

Thanks galway. Is there any issue with opening an a/c in Northern Ireland if you have a ROI address?

No I'd no problem with Northern Bank, they just required the usual, proof of address and passport. Didn't matter that you lived in Republic. Ulster bank were a bit more picky, looking for employers details etc.

I have a sterling account with Anglo-Irish and have a competitive rate of interest.

Thanks Jpd. Yep, checked with them today & their rates look good for a 1 year Fixed Term.
