Dell Media Direct set as default?

I seem to have downloaded Dell Media Direct as my default media player. When I want sound on my laptop, I first need to put in a cd to bring up Dell Media Direct and select it before I can get a sound on my laptop.

Its more annoying than a problem but I was wondering if anyone would know how to rectify this so the laptop will just play sound without having to put in a cd first?

Not sure what version of Windows you have but go into Control Panel and choose Default Programs, then Set Default Programs and go to Dell Media Direct and unassociate it from whatever defaults it has.

Might be an idea to uninstall the program too because nothing should be doing that to your PC.

I have Windows XP. I checked Control Panel but can't find default programs.

Under Sounds & Audio Devices > Sounds > Sound Scheme - it gives me the choice of No Sounds or Windows Default. I can't see Dell Media at all (unless I'm looking in the wrong place?)
 
Sorry they were based on Windows Vista.

For Windows XP goto

My Computer
Tools menu
Folder Options...
File Types tab

Choose an audio file type and click Change below where it shows the associated program and choose some other program an dsee how that works. You'll need to do it individually for each audio file type though I think.
 
Thanks again! I went through your post in File Types but I only have the choice of 'Media Direct'. Further down the list on another cd programme, it said it played Realplayer but again I can't see any choices to amend it.

I'm really unsure which files are even audio files (unless cd is in the name of all audio programmes)?

Maybe if I downloaded Realplayer again, I could set it as a default?
 
Try to right click an audio file (i.e an mp3), highlight 'Open with...' and from the resulting menu, pick Windows Media Player or whatever program you wish. There should be a check box on this menu which will make this the default program to deal with such files.

This should set all files of the same type to WMP or whatever.
