Debt settlement

I have an unsecured debt from 2011 which fell into arrears. I made sporadic payments and avoided any legal action being taken but it has been sold on twice to different institutions. When the last institution took over the debt, they asked me if I was interested in making a one-off discounted payment to settle the debt in full. I didn't have the money at the time, so I have been making regular monthly payments for the last year. I have a bit of money coming to me next month, so I decided to see if they were interested in a settlement again and they said they were. Are there any implications to me accepting this offer? It is not a DSA or any formal arrangement with anyone else involved.

There are no negative implications in reaching an "informal" settlement with the creditor concerned.

DSA's should only be used if you are dealing with multiple creditors.

In formulating your offer I suggest you clarify if they will ask you to pay their legal fees for drafting the settlement agreement (if one is going to be drafted.)
