de-icing tarmac in the winter ahead

Hello,
Having just put a new tarmac driveway down I am wondering how I can de-ice it in the winter ahead.
Can I use salt?

I'm going to have a slippy slide onto the road if there isn't something I
can put down.

We put the salt out of our water softener on ours last year when we had the big freeze thankfully it did'nt have any effect on the tarmac but we only done it two or three times and only where we really needed it.

Also remember, that in most cases you only need to tarmac the 2 strips of it that your tyres will move over, you can then also use these strips to walk on. means you are minimally effecting the tarmac.

Salt from water softener........... do you mean dishwasher salt???

Has anyone ever used ashes.......... they would wash away on the hill too as
I live in the country????

used dishwasher salt (very cheap) last year to keep path outside our place clear!
